Despite being a band for less a year, Keno has spent that time creating and refining its own brand of alternative rock. Consisting of members Adam Hofman (vox/guitar), Alex Rooney (guitar), Doug Meyer (bass) and Evan Davis (drums), Keno is based out of Ames, Iowa.
With influences that draw on such diverse acts as dredg, The Police and Smashing Pumpkins, each member adds its own personal style to the songs they create. The band has spent its short time together playing shows in the Des Moines/Ames area while sharing the stage with both national acts (Sleeping In The Aviary, Lollipop Factory) and local acts (Beati Paoli, Wolves In The Attic).
During five straight months of playing shows, Keno wrote and recorded its debut EP, "The Sky Is Alive In This Cold City," in the interim, spending two different stretches of time in the recording studio. The self-financed and self-produced EP consists of six songs that embody the change and regression from fall to winter in the Midwest. Themes such as abandonment on “Stars” (We’re never coming back ‘round here) and despair from “Attack/Defend” (We are sick and we are faded / We are broken, we are jaded) are prominently featured on the record and reflect the idea of leaving everything behind in order to start anew.
