Details:
Back in the mid 60’s , a dynamic duo calling themselves Sam and Dave, became one of the defining musical entities for the baby boomer generation. Their presentation, based around a contrasting baritone and tenor attack, literally created a new form of musical presentation. Equally as talented in every way (and more so in song writing capabilities) was Asheville, NC’s Pic and Bill. This duo, consisting of Charles Pickens (Pic) and Billy Mills (Bill) , carved out their own incredible canon of deep southern soul, and the fact that they did not reach an equal level of stardom, is one of the great injustices ever handed down in soul music (if not popular music in general). With an able assist from the multi-talented Moses Dillard and production work from their mentor, Dave Smith, the group created a body of work that is still coveted in soul collector circles all around the globe. While “Sad World Without You”, “What Does It Take”, and “Talk About Love” are great dance floor numbers, it is the soul ballad where the guys really show their stuff. “Funny How Time Slips Away”, “Over The Mountain Across The Sea” and “Love Is A Many Splendored Thing” all stand as memorable testament to the acts vocal virtuosity, but to most ears it is the incredible reading of the old country tune “All I Want Is You”, that sets them apart vocally .
