Details:
Positive Energy (PE) is a group that evolved at the beginning of the new millennium. PE articulates a form of Hip-Hop that exonerates the medium from its negative portrayal and renders it as a true art form that is responsible for fueling a culture. Way beyond monotonously simple concepts, mindless lyrics, and contrived music, PE has a sound that is nurturing to the common ear –invoking thought, reflecting and analyzing life’s realities, and inspiring the soul. The group consists of a two man team dedicated to the continued progression of Hip-Hop music and culture. Prophecy - Derrick Dolphin aka the Vision and DUB Colossus - Errill Nelson are two veterans who have endured throughout the years honing their skills, navigating the trails, and overcoming the trials that emerge in human existence. They have arrived in an era where change is paramount; global issues are at the forefront of debate; and human kind has reached the tipping point on multiple fronts such as the economy, the environment, and war.

As socio-economic conditions around the globe dissipate and getting by continues to become more difficult, major main stream media saturates the public with ganstarized images of artists who promote lifestyles that perpetuate hopelessness. Many of these artists create songs that have no substance with content that insults the intellect. They promote gangsta values, violence, silly dances, brand names, narcotics, alcoholic beverages, and automobiles. Rappers orate about living lavish; however, their audience straddles between poverty and a sub-middle class existence. The subject matter of most rap songs distracts the masses from what they really should be focused on –becoming educated, making an honest living, and taking care of their families. Instead millions of young people and adults make poor life choices focusing on the ancillary –that next high, fresh new kicks, or rims for their Toyota Corolla. Who wants to hear about “poppin bottles” when the rent is past-due? Many rappers of the 21st Century are narcissistic troubadours who gloat about money and material possessions when millions of people who comprise their audience are living check-to-check or are even unemployed.

People deserve options beyond what is in heavy rotation on urban radio, which determines what gets played on video programs and also encourages what is sought out on the internet. PE’s music is that option –a refreshing departure from the redundancy and ridiculousness of the Hip-Hop game in its current state. Their latest album, “Thru Rebel Eyes,” has been created through conceptualized thought and true inspiration crafted especially for those who are frustrated with what Hip-Hop has become. In an era of a historic political change, stimulus packages, bailouts, and “going green” people need more and PE has created an album with material that provides them with more. With songs such as “Rap Profit,” which speaks the truth about artists who claim they have millions; however, in reality they are ultimately indebted to their record labels in a perpetual quest to recoup their advances. “Betta Must Come” and “Pole Position,” are songs that accentuate the hope of a better tomorrow and encourage listeners to live to their fullest potential. In “Millennium” and “S.O.T.U. (State of the Union)” the duo addresses the geo-political landscape and expresses their take on current events. The title track “Thru Rebel Eyes” closes the album with poetic expression and cunning prose that highlight the importance of the influence that we can have in the lives of those around us.

PE encourages listeners to take responsibility for their own personal development, self-evolution, and preservation. In the United States and abroad unemployment and incarceration rates continue to rise and are still disproportionately higher for the demographic of people that is responsible for the genesis of Hip-Hop. Even still, most mainstream urban popular music continues to perpetuate a mindset that impedes progress and glamorizes lifestyles that are fictitious and are counterproductive leading people into an abyss. PE is committed to advancement of human kind. Take part in the intellectual revolution and listen to Positive Energy –an instrument of enlightened artistic expression certified by real quality Hip-Hop music.
