Mark Flores is a singer-songwriter-guitarist who resides in Sydney, Australia. Originally from the Philippines, he first settled in Albury, a country area on the border of NSW and Victoria.
He is inspired by artists such as John Mayer, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Bon Jovi and Jeff Buckley, resulting in songs that have an acoustic, bluesy quality, lyrical-mystery, mainstream yet artistic appeal. He has performed live on local television and radio, including a music video that appeared on ABC’s “Rage” program.
Mark Flores released his first 3-track demo on May 2009 titled “Save It For A Rainy Day” which he also produced entirely. A music video for the title track is in its pre-production stages. He is currently performing solo in various venues around Sydney and will be part of the artist lineup for the annual Jeff Buckley tribute night in May. He has performed to audiences as small as 5 in a pub to hundreds at festivals.
Mark Flores has formed a few bands since his move to Sydney in 2002, from a 3-piece acoustic to 5-piece pop, rock and metal outfits, all playing original music. He is now in the process of recruiting new members for the band.
He also studied Audio Engineering for 2 years at JMC Academy, falling short of a High Distinction average by 1%. His goal is to promote his music in the hopes that one day, he can make a true living out of something he loves – making music. He is highly active in the music community, a writer/critic for https://www.tradebit.com, a website designed to review the Sydney and surrounding music scene that is run by himself and fellow friends and musicians.
Mark Flores is a DIY artist and highly believes in the DIY philosophy of taking charge of his music and promotion. He feels this is a necessity due to the changing face of the music industry and feels it''s the only way he can improve his own ''artist development''.
His favourite quote is one he heard from Eric Clapton: "How could any musician who is true to himself keep his experience out of his music? I mean, it''s impossible. And that''s where all true great music is, is that you hear someone''s life in what they play."
