My inspiration for "Even If" is found in Daniel 3:16-18: ~Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to the king, "O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and he will rescue us from your hand, O king. But even if he does not, we want you to know, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.
These 3 men expressed such a deep relationship with God. Not only did they have faith in His ability to save them, but they resolved to honor Him even if He didn’t. This is an exceedingly rare, unconditional kind of love. It is not dependent on feelings, or experiences. It doesn’t say, “If you do this for me, then I will love you back.” No. It says, “Even if I don’t feel you, or see you, or hear you, or experience you the way I want to, or get the answer I prayed for … I won’t turn from you.”
Nowhere is such love reflected more poignantly or graphically, than the cross where Christ laid down His life for us, and He did this in the face of our rejection of Him. He said with His life and death, “Even if!”
God has used this message to deeply sift me and stir my heart, and I am hoping He will use this music to do the same in other’s lives as well.
