Alan Craig is a musician, songwriter and producer who has been playing and writing music nearly his entire life. While he tends to lean towards the Rock genre, he also appreciates many other musical styles including Blues, Fusion, Jazz, Funk, Reggae, Latin, Country, World, Americana and Bluegrass. He was raised overseas and lived primarily in Asia and South America until he went back to the States to attend college (which certainly accounts for his eclectic taste in music). He resides in the Tampa Bay area where he has been performing in bands for many years. During that time he had the opportunity to play with some pretty amazing musicians as well as participate in several recording projects (a couple of which he either produced or co-produced). These albums are available on all the major music retail sites including "Al''s Pals" (2008) and the "St. Pete Mountain Boys" (2002).
His latest project, “Love Is Today,” was truly a labor of love. While it is essentially a Rock album, it is difficult to categorize the overall sound since each of the tunes draw from such different musical styles. Steve Earle, Queen, Johnny Cash, Tom Petty, Paul Simon, Marty Robbins, Bob Marley, the Beatles, Pink Floyd, https://www.tradebit.comx are some of the artists this album was influenced by. What is constant, however, is the level of musicianship given the amazing ensemble of players who were involved in the project. The primary lineup includes Ross Rice(keyboards & vocals), George Harris (guitars) and David Reinhardt (drums & percussion). These guys have performed collectively with the likes of Peter Frampton, Brian Johnson, Robin Zander, Rick Derringer, Don Felder, Buck Dharma, Joe Lynn Turner, Mark Farner, Adrian Belew, Donald “Duck” Dunn, Steve Cropper, Richard Elliot and many others. Other musicians on the project include David Bawel, Rob McDowell, Charlie Morris, Devin Rice, Todd Bowman, T.C. Carr, Ronnie Dee and Steve Middents, all outstanding musicians in their own right.
Alan and his principal songwriting partner, Mike Thornburgh, had each lost a sibling and a parent in recent years and that already had them thinking about how short life really is. When they suddenly lost one of their closest friends to cancer, they decided to write a new song to help them through the grieving process. That led to a new album including other recent material as well as a couple of older tunes that were never produced properly. Alan''s old pal, David Bawel, also contribued a couple of tunes to the project. “Love Is Today” is fondly dedicated to their good friend, Thomas M. Pleasants. He will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him as he was a gentle and soft spoken individual with a razor sharp wit and a true love for music, sports, fine cuisine and his family and friends. Anyone who knew him was blessed to have had him in their life.
“Love Is Today” was recorded and mixed at Panda Productions in Clearwater, FL by George Harris. Not only does this studio have all the latest state-of-the-art recording gear, but it also features an incredible array of guitars, amplifiers and keyboards (you name it, he''s got it). The most important feature of course is George, who has nearly 30 years in the recording business (not to mention his guitar prowess). Just recently, George worked with Cheap Trick and Rick Derringer on their upcoming albums. This album was mastered by Michael Fuller of Fullersound in Miami, FL. Michael has been in the business since 1975 and has worked with an endless list of recording artists including Rod Stewart, Kenny Loggins, the Eagles, Eric Clapton, the Bee Gees and Julio Iglesias (to name but a few).
The selection of original material, the blend of musical styles, the superior musicianship and the high production values all contributed to the creation of a top-notch CD reminiscent of the albums from yesteryear.
