The musical Passage to Niburu begins, as stories about the future of Mankind inevitably must, with the end of the world. But how did it come to this?
In the golden age of humans, Man became so enamored with the promise of advanced technology that he believed that it could erase the sins of his past. But the very technology that Man worshiped as his savior proved to be a double-edged sword. Indeed, technology that could have been used for good; to eliminate disease, to feed the hungry, to reverse global warming, instead was used to amass an arsenal of nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons that could destroy his world a thousand times over.
Like the sword of Damocles hanging by a thread, those maniacal weapons were aimed at the very heart of Man, just waiting for some insane band of zealots to pull the trigger. And they did.
No human life on the surface of the Earth would survive the devastation that Man brought upon himself. Life on Earth, as it had been known, was gone in the blink of an eye. But for life as yet unknown, worlds would begin anew. From the ashes of Man’s arrogance, the evolutionary genie was unleashed from the bottle . . . it was twisted, broken, poisoned . . . and then tossed back into a toxic primordial soup. The future of Man would no longer be governed by a millennium of evolution, but in fact, it would be reversed . . . into a genetic devolution. Worlds would be remade, but this time, they would not be made in the image of Man.
In those final moments before the Apocalypse, as the human race stood at the brink of total annihilation, a small band of humans escaped by hurling themselves into space . . . cast astray to destinations unknown.
We hear this story through the ears of an unlikely collection of diverse characters that are thrown together, some by choice and some by chance, as they are plunged into the middle of an intergalactic war on an alien planet. It is this accidental confrontation that triggers a multidimensional “good vs. evil” struggle to the death with many twists and turns, where courage, altruism, and unlikely alliances are all that stand between survival and extermination.
In the midst of a conflict that often blurs the boundaries of species and genetics, some truths are discovered that are immutable. Respect for life, free will, and true love can’t be found at the end of a gun or under a microscope, but thankfully, their seed is present in all living creatures, just waiting to be awakened. And so it was that in his quintessential moment of truth, as Mankind stared into the abyss of his own extinction, only the atonement for his transgressions would offer a glimmer of hope for his future.
But this is not a story about the beginning of the end of Mankind; regardless of this story, that ending will come soon enough. This is a story about the end of the beginning for the human race; an epic journey, the battle between good and evil, and the quest to discover why Man was placed here in our universe.
