The origin of SONRIZE began from the long-time friendship between mandolin player Donny Anderson and guitarist Mark Ross. These two had known each other through Fairview United Methodist Church, their home church. Donny and Mark were regular participants with the "bluegrass band" during annual Heritage Sunday services. However, it wasn''t until a duet number in a regular church service that these two noticed that they had found a spiritual gift.
Several duets later, under names like "The Fairview Bluegrass Band" and "Mark Ross and Friends" (that''s right, it''s still just the two of them...), Mark and Donny add to the group their one and only "lovely girl singer", Jill Bond. Jill''s harmony and lead vocal contribution has served as a major part of the SONRIZE sound today.
By this time, Mark was just itching to start thumping on his new bass fiddle, so we needed a new guitar player. It wasn''t hard to spot the man in the church Praise Band pit waving his hands and shouting "Me, me, me!" From that time Buster Baldwin has served as not only guitarist and singer, but as ring master of molding our singing together to fit as one.
After a year or so as a four member band, our search for member number five also was sitting in the pews of Fairview. Arguably the most talented member of the band, fiddle player Justin Marcus polishes the gospel bluegrass sound that we all love with his musical gifts.
