Falling in love with music was an obvious fate for songstress and Nashville native April Rucker. As a child, the R&B artist was surrounded by a musical family who helped inspire her love for music. The vibes coming from listening to her family’s band rehearse in her bedroom were infectious. April pursued a formal education in music by enrolling in Nashville School of the Arts. There she honed her craft, focusing on a vast variety of music and making history as one of the school’s first solo vocalist of the Pop Ensemble Band. Through the years April went on to sing with various groups including R&B trio AlizA where she discovered her talent for songwriting. In 2004 April became a member of the Soul-Funk-Jazz band Monody that helped expose her as a solo artist in Nashville''s Urban music community. She eventually found joy in singing background for other artists. She has lent her vocal talents to artists such as Grammy and AMA award winning artist Yolanda Adams and Big Kenny of the country chart topping duo Big & Rich. April has also traveled to Europe where she performed and worked with young vocalist at the Karmoy Gospel Festival in Norway.
Stepping away from the comforts of supporting other artists, April has come in to her own with hopes to do what she believes she was born to do-share her talent and music with the world. Her smooth seductive style, influenced by artists such as Jill Scott and Amel Larrieux, sends listeners to a place some only visit in their dreams. Though her soft, sweet soprano voice can lull partakers into a world of pure tranquility, she wows crowds with intensity and strength as well. It’s the best of both worlds in a unique blend of Pop, Rhythm and Blues which she refers to as "Soula-Pop". Her writing is an amalgamation of personal experience and fantasy; ensuring music that’s relatable. Currently April is preparing her debut EP Here I Stand with the help of One Staj Music Group. “April Rucker is an original. Not only can her voice move mountains, but she is a brilliant writer and arranger. She blends her gifts to concoct her own unique stew that no one else can duplicate. She is a force to be reckoned with...and one that we will definitely hear more of in years to come,” comments Contemporary Soul artist Tim Dillinger. April’s found home on the many stages of her hometown “Music City USA” performing in venues such as B.B. King’s Club, Gaylord Entertainment’s General Jackson, and Gibson Showcase among others. “It’s a personal, intimate thing sharing my music with an audience,” April says. “I feel like I’m reading my diary aloud which can be a scary vulnerable feeling, but God blessed me with the gift of music and creativity. I’m going to share it. It’s what I live for.”
