DEVENTTER – THE SEVEN DIMENSIONS OF ROCK N ROLL
"Fifty years have passed since the birth of rock ‘n’ roll music. It’s so much time that we dare to say that everything was created in this segment. In fact, there are many who used to say that nothing new was done after The Beatles. The truth is that in five decades, rock ‘n’ roll has developed so much that gained lots and different ramifications, always based on talent, creativity and daring from those musicians that were not satisfied just by following a simple success formula. They actually wanted to say something by their own.
The rock/metal band DEVENTTER is one of these rare cases. Although it’s very difficult to create something new in this century, they have been exploring those different ramifications and dimensions of rock ‘n’ roll and heavy metal music. They don’t want to make a revolution, neither reinvent rock ‘n’ roll. They just want to say what they think with dignity and personality. A simple proposal, but a proposal with an inestimable cultural value in presence of the unilateral commercialization of the contemporary music." Eliton Tomasi - SOM DO DARMA
THE 7TH DIMENSION: TRACK-BY-TRACK (By Hugo Bertolaccini)
Birth – “Yes, it’s a hard to handle a gramophone”
A Paradox Of Self Destruction – “A great song, not just for the running time, but for the richness of details that shows all the influences of the band’s members. It’s heavy, aggressive, melodic and progressive. It has a catchy chorus and so much energy, and it’s wonderful to play it live!”
Life – “It’s a surprising song. The beginning is aggressive, with a fast keyboard solo and heavy guitars. The vocals also matches very well. On the second half of the song, the harmony was worked so intensely that we get great creative and catchy variations.”
The Meeting – “It’s a very sentimental song. We got to combine our new and old influences of progressive rock on that song. This is the most catchy chorus of the whole CD. It’s always good to listen people singing the chorus with the band on the shows.”
The Longest Day Part 1 (Sorrow) – “It was meant to be a ballad with acoustic guitar, vocals and piano, but turned into a classic song with a string quintet. Harmonically, the song varies all the themes of the CD in a very subtle way. The strong bass tempo and the cello seem to say: Hey man, this is a rock ‘n’ roll album!”
The Longest Day Part 2 (Sounds In The Void) – “It’s a sad moment of the album’s concept. The voice work on the surface of simple piano notes turns this song into a beautiful but agonizing song.”
The Longest Day Part 3 (Falling Skies) – “It’s a beautiful direct song with a wonderful guitar solo: just a few notes, none virtuosity, just the most pure feeling and in a very contagious sound!”
The Longest Day Part 4 (Depression) – “It’s definitively the most crazy song of the CD. In this song, the band unites the 70’ths progressive rock, the thrash metal from the 80’ths and also some modern influences.”
The Secret Of Your Power – “Riffs and more riffs. It’s direct, aggressive, with some screaming vocals, everything to revive rock ‘n’ roll. It also includes an inspiring/heroic ending.”
THE DIMENSION OF NOW!
In despite of being the first work of a new band formed by very young musicians, The 7th Dimension has been conquering very expressive results, making of DEVENTTER a veteran band.
The very positive reviews on magazines such us Roadie Crew and Valhalla opened the doors of the major clubs and Brazilian festivals. DEVENTTER have played with expressive bands such as Thessera, Freakeys (with Angra musicians), Tempestt, among others.
The explosive shows also leaded the musicians to overcome as individuals. The keyboard player Hugo Bertolaccini was invited by the band Thessera to join them through their European tour when the band played at ElsRock Open Air in Holland with bands such as Nevermore and Dream Evil.
Another great conquering of the band is the fact that DEVENTTER has been pointed by Mike Portnoy, Dream Theater’s drummer, as one of the best contemporary Brazilian bands. Through a competition organized by Dream Theater, Mike Portnoy chose DEVENTTER to be the opening act for one show of their last Brazilian tour. DEVENTTER and Dream Theater played together in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais state, on last march.
Still in this year of 2008, the band did other great shows as the opening gig for Circle II Circle, the new band of the ex-Savatage singer, Zak Stevens. They also took part of the 10th edition of Roça ‘n’ Roll, one of the biggest Brazilian rock/metal open air festivals.
