Details:
Kabir is an independent rapper, singer and producer originally from London. His music brews a robust blend of raw flow, thought-provoking lyrics, bass-heavy beats and catchy, soulful melodies. A U.K. transplant and current native of Cambridge, MA, Kabir performs regularly at colleges and clubs around the Northeast. He has shared stages with a wide variety of musical giants such as The Roots, Wyclef Jean, Talib Kweli, Common, Dilated Peoples, Lyrics Born, Rahzel, Matisyahu, Soulive, Maceo Parker and Galactic.
Kabir’s first self-produced album "Cultural Confusion" (featuring https://www.tradebit.com, Virtuoso, & Esoteric) was released in 2001 (Uncle Trouble Music) and independently sold approximately 3000 units. “Cultural Confusion” is a multi-layered concept album with raw beats, real rhymes and instrumental interludes. Several songs on the record reveal Kabir’s personal experiences with his own multi-racial identity, while others take a broader view of cultures and the conflicts between people.
Kabir’s second album, “Fuel for the Fire” was released in August of 2003 (also on Uncle Trouble Music). For this album Kabir again called upon the services of some of Boston’s hottest MCs including: Esoteric, Virtuoso, Shuman, and III Kings. A number of talented singers also contributed to this album including Amayo of the Antibalas Afro-Beat Orchestra. Kabir produced many of the tracks on this album himself, and a handful of guest producers also put their stamp on the record. “Fuel for the Fire” is about the way people live and the emotions that inspire us to do what we do.
Kabir’s new album, “Peaceful Solutions,” came out on April 25th and is being released in partnership between Uncle Trouble Music and Raptivism Records. Once again Kabir has collaborated with a variety of different artists including vocal wonderboy Ryan Montbleau, Shuman (who has several songs with KRS-1) and C-Money of John Brown’s Body. Many of the tracks on “Peaceful Solutions” are self produced, while others are done in collaboration with some of the same producers that Kabir has worked with in the past. “Peaceful Solutions” will be Kabir’s most widely available album and is distributed by Rykodisc/Warner.
Kabir currently performs his original material with the able support of a funky live hip hop band. He is always held down by his DJ, Axel Foley, on the turntables and the group features a rotating lineup of all-star musicians. Kabir’s band provides the backbone for his live show: an infectious dose of thoughtful and energetic music.
