Details:
Shining Tusks are a Portland, OR band. Their sound is a spare singer/songwriter frame fleshed out with harmony vocals, banjo, violin, lapsteel, guitars, drums, and percussion. The songs might remind you of your lost love, drunk on wine coolers in a city park, listening to bootlegs on a first-generation boombox you brought up from the basement. The voice on this record is strong and nostalgic.
the cold tangled heart is not for us to drown / so dance in the living room in your new clothes / the stove is full of alder coals and the night is close / as an old wool coat
The band has a Northwest Americana-folk sound with punk ancestry. The result is a raw presence in the narrative delivery that cuts through even when tracks feature multiple layers of harmony violin and vocals. These songs exult and lament love and loss and are illustrated with observations from the natural world. The lyrics paint some pictures clearly and hint at others--the imagination gets going and meanings change as verses unfold.
This is the first public release from a band that has concentrated on great songwriting. Shining Tusks are four Portland musicians who have played together about 2 years. We Sunk the Moon is full of feeling—virility, joy, and grief—if you want more please visit Shining Tusks myspace page for new songs, demos, rambling stories, pictures, and tour info. Thanks!
