Details:
The best way to describe the sound of Violet Grey – BIG! Violet Grey has been active since 2005 making intimate music with a big, lush sound. With “Nowhere” Violet Grey marks its first full length release. The swing in feel on “Nowhere” range from groovy dreamers like “Glass Doors” and “Window Paine”, to the slightly Smiths-esque melody of “Let Go”, to hard rockers like “Swing!” and the albums title track “Nowhere” – there is something here for everyone. The dynamic nature of music vs. lyrics ensure that there will something new to discover with every listen.
Focusing less on anger and misery, “Nowhere” takes a more mature and introspective route, looking at issues of acceptance and self forgiveness. It’s less about placing blame than accepting responsibility for the things we do and the people we hurt than merely lashing out to express disappointment in ourselves. “Nowhere” also takes time to celebrate those feelings we covet, taking time to remember just why it hurts so much when they are gone.
Violet Grey is the ambition of Michael, who writes and records the music of VG from his studio around Detroit, MI. As well as being the creative voice behind the music, Michael is also the eyes behind the project, creating the visual aesthetic that accompanies Violet Grey’s presence in print and on the web. Violet Grey is an independent project in the truest sense of he term, with all aspects being created and overseen by Michael for his label, Beau Ideal Records.
Michael Schinke, born August 1976, is a "self made" creative entity. Playing multiple instruments, singing, writing, recording, and producing various musical works for almost 10 years, Violet Grey is very much a force his will. The music he writs is the music he wants to hear; without compromise, without formula, without oversight. Some might say without any sense, but Michael has confidence in his ability to convey a message through his lyrics.
