JAZZ: Jazz Vocals, JAZZ: Traditional Jazz Combo
Kaylene Peoples is an accomplished musician in every sense of the word. Already having released her first CD "Rite of Passage," and a former LA Music Awards winning producer, her debut Jazz CD "All Jazzed Up" has been a long time coming. Filled with some of the most cherished standards including timeless Bossa Nova hits like "How Insensitive," "Girl from Ipanema," "Once I Loved," and "One Note Samba," each track is sung with the warmth and appeal reminiscent of 1960's jazz.
Kaylene Peoples is also an accomplished flautist and has delivered six songs on her CD with tasteful, yet challenging flute solos. Her rendition of Burt Bacharach's "Wives and Lovers" is terribly original, and Kaylene shamelessly shows off her 5-octave range, while vivaciously scatting. Kaylene takes us back to the days of Sara Vaughan and Ella Fitzgerald while teasing us with the vocal stylings of Al Jarreau.
Grammy-Award-Winning jazz bassist, Stanley Clarke quotes:
"Kaylene's flute playing reminds me of Herbie Mann, and the musicianship on this album is impeccable. My favorite cut on her CD is 'My Favorite Things' done in an ingenious alternating 5/4 - 6/4 meter."
"All Jazzed up" encompasses classic and traditional Jazz. Kaylene's Trio, "Peoples Republic," plays brilliantly while capturing the true emotion of her very affecting vocal stylings. After hearing her perform each of the thirteen songs, you leave with a piece of her soul, and it is a soul that Kaylene has no problem exposing. The best example of this is "Lush Life," "Funny Valentine," and "Good Morning Heartache." Solo Guitarist, Rich Mouser, adds a unique flavor to these tracks with his seasoned eclectic style ranging from blues, jazz and Latin-Flamenco with a fierce aggressiveness. Mouser is no ordinary guitar player.
Not only does Kaylene interpret other composer's songs with true originality, but she herself is a gifted songwriter. Her three originals, "My Only Crime," "Do You Remember," and "Run Away with Me" are memorable and extremely radio friendly.
"All Jazzed Up" is a nostalgic breath of fresh air. Once you've listened to this CD, you'll be tempted to wear that beret and visit the beatnik brick walled poetry mills of yesteryear. But whether you are listening while taking a road trip, or you're entertaining guests at a cocktail party, "All Jazzed Up" is the perfect companion!
