Gwendolyn Latricia Jones Cooks
Singer, Poet and Lyric writer of songs
I was born in North Carolina but am currently living in Arizona. I have always had a life long passion for music. My father sings and plays the base guitar and my mother has been given recognition for her poetry. So I do believe this is where I get my love of singing and writing. I must say that it is in my blood.
I enjoy singing all types of music. I have been told that my style of music is an easy listening type of R & B. Many people that have heard the songs I wrote give me compliments stating that they really like it because they can relate to what I am saying in the songs. As if I was singing about their experiences in life.
This year so far has been a very busy time for me. I am working on releasing a CD single called “What else do you want?” I have begun to perform the song in AZ. I have also been writing and recording songs for another CD that will be released later this year called Fulfilled. This CD will have more songs that I have written and will feature two new upcoming artists singer/songwriter Do P and producer, singer/songwriter Foresight of 8919 Productions. Foresight also produces most of my songs and creates the music. I sing to him the lyrics I wrote the way I want the song to flow or I will hum the way I want the beat to sound and he gives it the sound in the style that I am looking for.
Last year went to Nashville, TN where I met with the staff of Affinity Music and Sound Control Studio. While there, recorded some songs I wrote and it was a great experience. Performed at United Way during their Las Vegas theme function and also performed at the AZ State Hospital. Earlier this year a staff member who works with abused women (name kept anonymous for safety reasons) asked if two of my poems, which are “In the Mirror” and “Past”, and a song I wrote “Let me go” be given to the women that come to the shelter. I said yes. It is been worked to get these issued in hope to inspire them in their new beginning. This has been a great accomplishment for me. Recently I have been given an Editors Award, nominated as 2006 Poetry Ambassador and nominated as Poet of the year by the International Library of Poetry. I am happy just to be nominated. Receiving this was a needed confirmation for me. Let me not forget to add that my poem “Don’t every say” will be published in the book Immortal Verses scheduled for publication this spring.
I hope that my current music projects can lead to a record deal and me writing songs for other artist. I would like to have my music heard worldwide and continue to positively inspire people through songs and poetry.
