James "Gip" Gibson grew up in Motown (Detroit) and learned to play the bass at age 8. He graduated with a B.S. in Chemistry from Elizabeth Cith State University, but kept his chops up by getting jazz gigs wherever he could. Gip is married with 3 kids and now resides in Chesapeake VA.
After having played bass for his church (Grove Baptist Church in Portsmouth, VA.) for several years, Gip''s writing style evolved into a mixture of gospel and jazz.
His album "Keep the Faith" features the soulful sax playing of Michael Pettiford and a vocal treat from sister in-law Stacy Gibson.
