Details:
Music became a part of George Alexander’s daily life at a very young age in the State of Texas, in a town called, Orange. His parents owned a restaurant that not only served good food but, supplied the patrons with soulful music while dining. Everyone was familiar to the lyrics of each song as well as, the artist. At a tender, young age, many jazz greats were instrumental in influencing the musical ability of George. .Cab Calloway, Earl Hines, Duke Ellington, and many other famous musical arrangements of that time were constantly played on the jukebox.

George began to make his musical mark at the early age of 15 when he played professionally with the “Bubba Lutcher Band” touring Louisiana and Texas. After finishing high school, he entered college and from there to the Army. His stint in the Army band offered him the opportunity to meet many future jazz greats. His roommates in the Army Band were Andy Simpson and Leslie Spark. Many gigs on the East Coast gave George additional experiences needed to become an aggressive player.

With more tours in Texas under his belt, George traveled to New York and from there to LA where he met many more jazz greats, as well as, a small role in the movie “Pepe” at Columbia Studios. His musical performances caught the eye of Lionel Hampton, Dexter Gordon, John Coltrane and a real good gig with the “Lighthouse Allstars” on Hermosa Beach, CA. While in the LA area, George was a backup musician for Ella Fitzgerald, Nancy Wilson, and Gladys Knight.

Over the years, George has ferociously attacked each performance like a prize fighter attacks his opponent. His instrumentation requires daily practice. The trumpet is an instrument that necessitates the embouchure (lip) being stable enough to produce each note with flow and ease. This gives him the security to go on stage to hear and taste the sound of each note. George has a unique style that is unrestrained when projecting a simple musical style in order to create a sound that exemplifies a feeling that is remembered not only by him but, his audience too. His magnetism circulates with the first couple of notes. Most of all, he shows his passion for his instrument in every performance which creates a loving experience for any musician. In other words, George is usually mesmerized in his own musical world.

George Alexander is recognized throughout the Bay Area where he has lived for forty years performing with a large segment of groups too numerous to list. He is also an astute Flautist. His expertise with the trumpet adds to his soulful delivery. A description of his style, which is classic/soulful jazz, brings to mind a Clifford Brown meeting Freddie Hubbard. A little stronger than Miles, and a little thicker than Wynton. This is the style of an electrifying trumpet player from the warm Gulf Coast Area combined with the cool Bay Area.

George completed his formal music training at Houston-Tillotson College and Texas Southern in Texas. Among his credits are thirty years as a music teacher in the West Contra County School District in Richmond, Ca. After retirement, George was selected to perform with the Celestial Brass Band from California, in Belgium, Spain and Denmark.

The Bay Area jazz scene has provided George with the experience of performing with many musicians that he takes pride is talking about. His musical abilities are profoundly displayed on a CD produced by Jim Bronson and Touche Records Co. called “Happiness is Takin’ Care of Natural Business…….dig?! with the Al Tanner Quintet.

It is his greatest desire that you enjoy this CD with his heartfelt performances, as much as he has enjoyed carefully playing these favorite songs that may also be some of your favorites. As George often says, “This is my life, this is my love”.
Finally, you will get to hear George Alexander at his very best.
