Abridgment from the ''Post Bulletin'' of Rochester, MN - 1/12/06
For several years, Ben Bigelow fronted an alt-country band in Minnesota. He played guitar and sang about growing up in a small town at some of the biggest music venues of the Twin Cities.
This latest endeavor, Brother Ben, covers another territory. The music comes from the inspiration of living in India for nearly half a year, and also from time spent in the local churches of Rochester upon returning.
The songs, which may be classified as Christian or inspirational at times, are folk songs that carry a fondness of relating the beauty and unicity of life via actual life experiences. With no intentions and nothing forced, Ben''s writing style is simply to let it flow from his heart:
"I can''t make myself write a song or be artistically creative. It happens on it''s own."
The first song on the album states:
I cannot sing until You inspire me ...
I cannot do anything alone.
Pick up my pen, but I can''t write.
Without a feeling, burning in my soul.
