Busticles is a fearsome foursome located in Phoenix, AZ, originating from Cincinnati, OH. Utilizing uniquely homegrown grooves, they’ve been tearing the roof off of desert venues and bringing a taste of original flavor.
The band consists of brothers Jon and Brandon Weil, who have been jamming since the ages of 8 and 6 on guitar and drums, respectively; Sunir Patel on the bass, who was initiated in 1995; and the last inductee, vocalist Mike Ward, who anted up in 1997. The unit finally morphed into Busticles circa 1999 and has been growing ever since. After only sporadically playing on summer and winter breaks from college for four years, they each gradually relocated to Arizona. Busticles reunited in the desert at the end of 2002, immediately making a bunch of noise and claiming a stake in the Phoenix area rock scene.
With a blend of styles, primary influences include rock, reggae, hip-hop, metal and funk. The result is likely to quicken the pulse, make one think, put the mind at ease, and cause the crowd to straight up rock out. The band’s sound has been compared (in various ways) to Rage Against the Machine, Sublime, the Chili Peppers, and 311, but when all brewed up together, it’s pure Busticles.
The band has released several albums and EPs over the years, including 2001’s Permagrin, and 2004’s Lobstertrap. In the summer of 2006, Busticles has stepped up with its strongest statement yet, a new album titled Fresh. With over an hour’s worth of songs, this self-recorded and produced collection of hard-hitting grooves is set to propel Busticles to the next level.
