Moving out of San Francisco to New York City I did not, as the song goes, leave my heart in the city by the bay. On the contrary- New York was calling me and I embraced this giant with all my heart.
“My wounded city”
Shortly after September 11th, I went to Central Park to clear my mind of the horror of that unimaginable event. I came to recall the nights I danced with the Gotham Swing members at the top of the twin towers. From the 110th floor we could see the magnificent New York city lights, or float on a bed of white clouds- like angels under the stars.
We were lucky not being there on September 11, but many were not...
From my bench at Central Park, seeing an ocean of American flags, I was filled with an overwhelming sense of love and patriotism which inspired me to write this song. It is dedicated to the memory of the innocent victims and courageous heroes of the September 11th tragedy.
