This CD is a journey through time for me. Beginning with Landslide, a song my brother taught me and the 1st song I learned to play on the guitar. If I''d of thought about the lyrics at 15 like I think about them now well...I''d of been old. But, they spoke something to me then and they still speak to me. I am a lyricist. I Love Lyrics! I always have. I remember songs that touched me when I was young and thinking about the universal impact of the human experience. How we all feel and experience similar situations and how that joins us as a people. Music connects us to one another and what a great inspirational realization to know that we are not alone in how we feel and think. We feel the pain and the joy of life just like another person. It''s a commonality we all crave and a tremendous relief when we hear it.
Life happens, and it is what it is. Through all the wonderful, terrible, beautiful and heartbreaking moments there is a song to fit each one.
I really wanted to include Home on this CD. It was a song I learned when I played in Cleveland Ohio as a duo with Joe Kory. It was my first "real" experience as a paid musician and it was definitely a passage for me.
I learned Circle Game when my son was a baby and I used to sing it to him. What an impact when I looked out while I was playing it one night and he was there...at 27 years old. Impossible. He was just 3 years old a minute ago? We are all captive on the carousels of time.
I wrote Same Old Story and it was written during a divorce....same old story, go figure.
Close your Eyes was morbidly added because of some drunken promise I made to my brother Mark years ago that I''d sing it at his funeral...so I thought I''d record it just in case I die before he does. Morbid. I told you.
Guitar Song was written because I have always gotten into some kind of trouble with my significant other when it comes to playing...mostly I stay out too late because I just don''t know when to quit!
Killing the Blues represents my newfound love of Ms Allison Krauss.
Go to Sleep lil baby was the first song my daughters and I learned together as 3 part harmony. I have no words to express the joy I feel about the ability to do this with them!
Helplessly Hoping was the 2nd song we learned in 3 part. I get goosebumps when I sing with them.
Emily''s song is the final passage to date. It was written for my youngest daughters'' wedding. It is such a conflict of emotions. Excited for her to go off and start her life with her husband and wanting her to stay "my little girl".
Finally, this life has been an amazing journey with an abundance of laughter and buckets of tears. Through it all, Time Passes and everything heals.
