Details:
"A Billion Birds" is Miss Pelican''s debut release. The EP has been in the works since 2008 and has offered the band a variety of accomplishments to be proud of. The framework of the music has always been solid, the bass lines and drums especially, but the addition of melodies from the alto sax and the fugal horn really bring the music together as a whole. Originally the band was just a two-piece, Gabe Miller on guitar and Mike Kendall on drums, until Mike''s brother Bob Kendall returned from Rockford Masters Commission to join the band and fatten the bottom end. He brought with him Aaron Rogers who filled in the melodies with his alto sax. At Gabe''s senior Baccalaureate church service, the band joined forces with future fugal horn player, Gary Licalzi, and together they provided some jazzy music for the church graduation service (an interesting place to find a new band member).
For the entire summer of 2009, the band worked on balancing recording the album with playing shows. They finished up just as Gabe was heading to his freshmen year at New York University and as Aaron was heading back to Rockford Master''s Commission. During the fall of 09, the album was being meticulously mixed and mastered at NYU until it was finally ready for the CD release show on January 2nd, 2010. The show was held at a venue known as The Grange in Jefferson, NY. Almost 100 people showed up for the exciting date, as it was also the CD release date for the rap band inFLOenza. The band is very proud of "A Billion Birds" and would greatly appreciate it if you gave us the honor of checking out our music.
