The Three Plectrums reunited on the night of February 15, 2003 - and what a night it turned out to be! With the combination of lively banjo music and an extraordinary audience, everyone in attendance knew this night was something very special.
For many years, banjo music was the ultimate in "good time" entertainment. Anyone could go to one of the many Red Garter taverns or pizza parlors and know they would have a rollicking good time. The strumming style of banjo played in the these taverns represented some of the best Tin Pan Alley music the Roaring ''20s had to offer. many were show tunes and most were sing alongs. Most of these places are gone now. Live acoustic music of any kind is getting harder and harder to find in a small club setting.
But every once in a while, the conditions are just right for the magic to happen again. When musicians gather in the right place at the right time, the "good ol'' days" come alive one more time! this Tiburon, CA show was one of those times.
It had been several years since the famous plectrum banjoists Larry Kennedy, Kurt Abell and Dave Frey were able to play together at the place where "it all began" - a local community church in Tiburon, California. But, here they were - together again. Along with Jim Brennan on tuba, David Hudnut on saw and Don Bull on piano, the banjoists performed with unbridled joy and enthusiasm that was easily seen and heard by the standing room only crowd. With the combination of lively banjo music and an extraordinary audience, everyone in attendance knew this night was something very special. As with the 1997 Three Plectrums first CD, The Banjo Is Back, this event was also professional recorded live and is made available here for your continued enjoyment.
