When Bernhard moved to Los Angeles, CA, in 1997, he participated in the local rat race for some time before he found peace of mind in the world of public radio as a producer and engineer.
This Munich, Germany native had been playing guitar, accordion and piano since 1985 and his creative input can be heard on over 20 albums.
Bernhard’s debut “Life Goes On And Then It’s Over!” combined the complexity of a Frank Zappa, the poetic intensity of a Leonard Cohen with the language of modern rock bands like Drums&Tuba.
Bernhard’s new album “I Ate Chocolate And Lost 20 Pounds!” was recorded in his son’s bedroom, mixed in the den and follows again the pattern of surreal humor as well as romantic lyricism to comment on the American experience.
Musical influences range from the Progressive tones of 70ties King Crimson to newer bands like Cake; the dry vocal delivery is set to accessible melodies, raw sound and complex musical structures.
Apart from learning the clarinet and keeping up on the piano, Mr. Drax is involved in radio, teaching and: of course writing his next album.
