Details:
I started recording this album in march of 08'', I knew I wanted to call it "collage", so the first thing was, which songs are going to be used. I had around 35 to choose from, 7 made it and the other 5 came along while making the album.
The first song on the album, "Splinter" was written in the fall of 2008. The song came out of nowhere, I picked up the guitar on a friday and by sunday it was done. Everything you hear was recorded at the time but the vocals, I kept tweeking them thoughout the year. Now "Try" was written in 2002 along with "Have You Heard" and "Only You", I woke up one saturday morning, had a cup of coffee and started playing and by noon these songs were written and recorded. I listened to those versions the other night (today is 12-29-2009) and compared to the versions on the album, nothing is the same and nothing has changed. I like to consider those three songs brothers and sisters, triplets, born on the same day and I didn''t want to seperate them. Let''s not forget "Little One", this one was written around 12 years ago, origanally called "Brook"(because I was sitting by one when I wrote it). I later added 2 more parts to this piece in Charleston, S.C. new years eve in 2003. These additions are not on the album version.
"Baby Jean", I kept this one simple, written in 2006, it''s just a fun jam song left wide open for improving
"So Fine" and "Sunrise pt.2" were written in october 2009, and "Sunrise pt.1" was written about 7 years ago. Pt.1 is a riff I just kept playing and playing over the years, it''s name, well that was a fun night, good food, good drink, good people, good times and before you knew it we heard birds then saw the sun. I played that piece before I went to bed, It just fit perfect with the moment.
"I.F.B.", improve-funk-blues, was written also in october 2009. The whole song is improved, that means 1 take per instument
no practice, lets''s see what comes out. Kind of a live jam, that''s why you''ll hear a couple of blunders
"Out of Here", that song I''ve been playing for 11 years before I ever put words to it. I always played it when I was in the mood for a heavy sound. Then one day about 4 months ago I''m stuck in traffic for three hours (practically a daily routine for me at the time) and I just started singing to the song, and there it was.
"Rose", written about a year ago, the waters edge and the gardens I speak of are the Elizabethian gardens, the hill is the top of walker lane and the flower, well they say you should stop and smell the roses once in a while, I say why just stop, pick one up and give it to someone you love.
