This disc features five world premiere recordings. Four of the five works here are commissioned by Ensemble Q. Working closely with the composers the ensemble has developed its own unique soundworld. The haunting echoes of the bass flute on Philip Cashian''s ''among the bleached stars and suns'', the rich earthy mix (smell the sounds!) of conta bassoon and bass clarinet on Tansy Davies''s ''Fern'', the plaintive melodies of Orkney on Gareth Brady''s ''Skara Brae'', or the mind games of Joe Duddell''s ''Endgame''.

It is this freshness of commissioning which gives this group its unique flavour, captured here by Simon Weir and the Classical Recording Company.
