Gary Bonnett Red Dirt Songs - album insert

1 Intro

2 Red Dirt Songs (Bonnett 2009 BMI)

When I wrote this song I was standing in my kitchen in my underwear cooking and rockin’ out to Pat Green. Yeah not safe, I know. The Red Dirt Music Movement is awesome and real. These singer/songwriters are amazing. I wanted to pay homage to them for what they have created and am part of. And you are now a part of!!

3 Curtis Lowe (Bonnett 2008 BMI)

In the fall of 2008, my career was on the rise and everyone and their brother was offering up advice to me. So I sat down and thought about what real advice I would want someone to give to me. I thought about my influences and how Skynard related to Curtis Lowe. So I just expanded on the story and how the advice I would want him to give me would influence my career much like Skynard has.

4 Long Way Back Home (Bonnett 2009 BMI)

Life out on the road is hard and being out on the road all of the summer of 2009 I found this out first hand. You have to surround yourself by like minded and tolerable people. I wanted to describe my personal therapy in this song. And hell yes it does make me feel a lot better after I sing this song each and every time.

5 Drifting

After living in Tucson since the spring of 2008, this desert has a way of bringing out deep thoughts. “Drifting” really brings out those deep thoughts of not really having closure in your relationship but knowing for a fact you don’t every want to hurt like that again. And drinking is damn sure not the answer!!

6 December Snow

My Best Friend in this world and his wife are having their first little baby girl, Addison Dawn Hutson, due December 6, 2009. I am so excited for them and want them to know that I will love this little girl like she is my own. Plus always be there for her if something, god forbid, should every happen to them. Congrats to you both. You are going to be awesome parents. And Ryan will get his pay back!!

7 Candy Girl (Bonnett 2009 BMI)

I hope this portraits me as a hopeless romantic. During my past relationship, we would fuss and fight but at the end of it all I still loved her. This is the way you have to take every relationship. No relationship is perfect and it sure isn’t like Disney dreams it up to be. And there is nothing better than coming off the road to someone that really loves you.

8 Wasted (Bonnett 2008 BMI)

It is amazing how you change for the better when you want to change your ways. When you see the prize at the end of the tunnel and want to make yourself a better person and knowing changing makes the prize even better. This is how i came up with writing this song, change is good!!

9 Setting Sun (Bonnett 2008 BMI)

When you get hurt in a relationship and you know you never want to hurt that way again. You want that person that hurt you to feel that hurt. I am sure that is probably not right, but it is damn sure the way that I felt. When everything is going so perfect and then turn a 180 on you!! It hurts and is no fun. You feel like you have been betrayed. Just another little therapy song.

10 Unaware (Bonnett 2008 BMI)

Being out on the road and going to different concerts I see people that have no self-respect for themselves. So this song talks about a girl that lives her life that way and has no self-respect or direction in life but she is unaware of what she is doing. Until one day she hits rock bottom and turns her life around but then she is unaware of how great she has turned out. Girl Power for sure!!

11 Now That You''re Gone (Bonnett 2009 BMI)

After a relationship is over and you hit that low, everyone needs a fresh start. Some see that fresh start in moving to Colorado, and some see that in writing a damn good song. Either way, a new start is much needed. One day you just see the light and know it is over with so as I say... we roll out and paint the town.

12 Girls of Tucson (Bonnett 2009 BMI)

As I was coming back from Kansas City in my bus, the Blue Bonnett Express, I started thinking of how tough some shows are out on the road in a new place. And how I couldn’t wait to get back to Tucson to play in front of the home crowd. There is nothing better than people packing the Cactus Moon and singing your songs. So I just thought of my female fans and wanted to write a song to really say Thank You to them. I would have written one for the guys also but that is a little weird. So thank you from the bottom of my heart for loving this music.

13 Just A Song (acoustic) (Bonnett 2009 BMI)

It is tough being out on the road and being in a relationship, but it can be done. And that is why I wrote this song, is to tell whom ever, that this music is about the song and me playing music that I feel down deep in my heart. Also I have been working my whole life for this dream and love what I do. And thank you for loving my music also.

14 Weep (acoustic) (Bonnett 2009 BMI)

One of my good friends and his wife got pregnant with their first child. They were so proud and happy but a couple months down the road something went wrong and she had a miscarriage. I could see the pain and disappointment in his face after being so proud and telling the world. I felt for them and felt the hurt. So as a good friend, I had to put it down on paper. These feelings were true and real. And just like this entire album, this is real life.
