"A Piece of Me" is a collection of emotionally moving compositions poised within the musicianship of an amazing rock band. The opening and title track, "A Piece of Me," invokes memories of grooves the likes of The Dave Matthew''s Band with unique layering of instrumentation. The use of Latin Jazz over these rock chord changes keeps the listen interested from the space infused bridge to the jammy ending. "The Rain" is an acoustic guitar driven heart felt encounter of the struggles of young love within the confines of Los Angeles. This track is one of the stand-outs on this album, receiving accolades from numerous songwriter organizations. The third and aptly titled "Epic (until the end of time)" is a concise pop/rock song that adds to its end an intricate and inventive rock piano solo unlike anything else you''ve ever heard. "You''ve Got to Believe" is a straight ahead Pop/Rock song with strong lyrics that make the listen ask if looks are enough for the person to be with someone else. The final track, "Stuck," contains the most in-depth and thought provoking lyrics. This is the darkest song on the album and sums up the thoughts and emotions of the artist as compiled in this collection.
This EP was written and recorded by Joseph John at Seasound Studios. Evan Beigel engineered while the band, Green Vinyl Dream (Ryko), lent their musical gifts for guitar, bass, and drums. While Joseph has recorded many other projects, this was his first and primary sit in a studio recording of his solo work. His other full length album, "Live Under Big Roof," was recorded completely live.
