Being a preachers son is a life changing experience, especially when two of five of your siblings are in the ministry as well. Church for me as for many was/is a spiritual raising experience. If you’ve ever experienced, group foot stomping to the beat, hand clapping, uplifting vocals, singing-chanting of spirituals/hymns, the sound of various of rhythms in spirituals, the rise and climax of a sermon, and the feeling of the holy ghost taking over you, then you know you’ve entered into the wonderful world of what brings millions out to worship and commune together.
My parents made sure I was in church with them on every occasion for multiple reasons: my father was a minister, my mother believed I needed to be there with them as all my siblings were at my age. My father believed that I would be called into the ministry to as 2 of my siblings had!
On one such day I overheard my dad discussing it with my mother, but she laughed at the idea, and so did I. So, I had to explain at a young age that I didn’t see myself as a “Rev. So & so”,…but maybe as some kind of a prophet via music! So when I initially composed this song as a teen about my early experiences in church and the hopes of my father that one day I’d be called into the ministry,…..I entitled it: Reverend So & so`
