Details:
With a background in musical theater and only 7 years of self-taught guitar playing and songwriting under her belt, Kelli Debbs has grown into an artist with an incomparable sound. In her debut EP, Dreamers and Insomniacs, it is clear Debbs has carefully sifted through her catalog to uncover the 5 songs that truly encompass her musical versatility. And although the pop rock essence in songs such as “Sad Eyes” and “Left So Easily” yields comparison to artists such as Michelle Branch, Kelly Clarkson and Sara Bareilles, Debbs brings variety to the table.

With the help of a few local musicians, with whom she shares the Tampa Bay music scene, her songs have come together to form a stylistically diverse compilation. Each from different bands in different genres, the musicians who accompany Kelli on the album leave their impressions in the form of bouncy bass lines, contemporary-funk keyboard elements, and surprising drum beats; all their musical diversity deriving from experience in bands such as New Orleans funk, psychedelic rock, and even death metal. Also note worthy, is the violin''s rather unexpected appearance in the song “Left So Easily”, giving a fun surprise to the melodic palette. It also appears in the song “Circles and Cycles”, which starts with a slow, aching introduction on violin, and ends in a burst of powerful harmonies, and purposeful instrumentals.

Apparent throughout the album is the raw talent that defines Kelli Debbs. Her voice has an unmatched tonal quality that is captured in the dynamic song-writing on the album. The musical forms written by Debbs are refined and thought-out, yet the music is free-flowing and organic. Her lyrics are heartwarming, heartbreaking, and identifiable. Clearly heard and understood in her songwriting are her stories, intimate details, innermost desires and inspirational ideas on life.

Interview with Kelli Debbs about Dreamers and Insomniacs by Jay Cridlin, Tampa Bay Times:
Tampa songstress Kelli Debbs is a longing romantic with a versatile voice and an introspective folk-rock catalog.

A New Port Richey native, she''s been writing music ever since she picked up a guitar seven years ago. "I have been singing since I was little, but didn''t think I could ever compose a song." She said.

On Saturday February 27th, 2010 she will release her debut EP, Dreamers and Insomniacs, with a show at Crowbar. Recorded with the help of several local musician friends--including members of Swamp Logic and Bird Street Players--she spent six months working on the disc, "which she says includes a range of styles, from optimistic love songs to introspective singer-songwriter songs about heartbreak."

"I started this album with the intention of recording five songs that would showcase my voice, and introduce people to who I am as an artist," she said.

"It was really amazing to see the guys take something I wrote and interpret it and add to it. They brought out the heart of my sound by helping it stay bluesy at times, poppy at others and then letting it breathe and stay acoustic and subtle when it needed. Most of all, they brought their own style to it, and combined it with mine, I got more than I could have imagined."
