In July, 2007, composer and sound designer Justin Samaha collaborated with choreographer Stephan Koplowitz on a site-specific work, set outdoors at Boston''s Institute for Contemporary Art. It was the first collaboration between Samaha, a film, TV, and multimedia composer, and Koplowitz, already well-known for his dances set for specific physical locations.
Samaha drew inspiration from the ambient sounds of the ICA''s location on the waterfront of Boston Harbor: wind, water, and wood, all in constant interplay. The choreography moved from spot to spot along the perimeter of the ICA, and likewise Samaha''s score morphed from soundscape to soundscape, as the relationships between the site''s sonic elements and the dancers morphed.
The work, titled (iseea) by Koplowitz, was a great success with both Boston art critics and the public. Samaha is thrilled to finally release his score for this truly unique artistic collaboration.
