WHO LET THE DOGS OUT?
A new album – Hair Of The Dog - from Three Bonzos And A Piano is let off its leash today, Monday 1 Feb, ahead of the band’s prime London launch date on Saturday 6 Feb at The Bloomsbury Theatre. The Three Bonzos – Sam Spoons, Rodney Slater and Roger Ruskin Spear – are original members of the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band, with the line-up completed by Dave Glasson, a stalwart of 60s and 70s comedy bands, on piano. Adding to the affray for one night only are extra Bonzos ‘Legs’ Larry Smith and Vernon Dudley Bohay Nowell with Andy Roberts on guitar and other plucking things (in fact, the only Bonzo missing is Neil Innes, now enjoying a successful solo career).
Those already familiar with Bonzo will be delighted to learn that Hair Of The Dog brings together all the styles of music, music hall, Spike Jonesy, Goonish and Pythonesque comedy that marked them out from the crowd in the mid sixties from their Gorilla album onwards, covering 30s jazz through Rock ‘n’ Roll and upwards, but with a new twist. Those discovering Three Bonzos And A Piano for the first time will find a refreshing take on life as the band’s writers – all well into their sixties – attack the challenges of growing older. Senior Moments and Old Geezer Rock stand alongside diverse songs about hair loss, the mysteries of satnav, the perennial question of shirts, white van drivers, punk, prunes, biscuits, recycling, flies and much more. There is also a poignant tribute to the late Viv Stanshall from his founder member mate Rodney Slater as he covers Viv’s own Ginger Geezer – be very touched, but only for a moment as the comedy will have you chuckling again before you can say ‘Hair Of The Dog’.
The album Hair Of The Dog is now available at Three Bonzos And A Piano shows, or can be ordered from their website https://www.tradebit.com and downloaded from iTunes.
