......Bassist Larry Epstein has played with the San Francisco symphony since the mid 1970''s, mostly as associate principal bass. Previously, he had played with the orchestra of Miami, Milwaukee and Strasbourg (France). A native of Miami, his interest in jazz grew while performing with the Univ. of Mami''s jazz band.
Since then, Larry''s enthusiasm for jazz has found outlets in various Bay Area jam sessions, occassional gigs, sitting in at friends'' gigs and writing music.

In this debut cd, Larry has grouped together some first-rate musicians to record seven of his original tunes. Eddie Marshall (drums), Harvey Wainapel (sax) and John Santos (percussion) all have led groups on their own impressive recordings and are well known to jazz lovers far and wide. Matthew Clark (piano) is a stunning player, and, Erik Jecobsen (trumpet), while appearing on the first two tracks only, makes a beautiful contribution.

......... Each tune on this cd has a distinctive feel:

Rat Race - a hard drivin'' tune.

Passeggiata - samba-like.

Oh, What Could Have Been - an extended ballad.

It''s About Time - a moody piece with a groove. almost hypnotic.

Blue Waltz - bowed bass takes a crack at the melody in this short waltz.

A Change Of Mood - an elegant tune with nice changes and rhythmic feel.

From Then Till Now - bass featured in this simple, but, deep ballad.

.......... This music is easy to listen to to, but, is NOT ''easy listening'' music. The presentation is straighforward; the appeal is simple and direct.

.............. "I feel very fortunate to have been able to group together such outstanding musicians for this recording. Sublime musicianship is an intangible quality, but, you know it when you hear it. Hear it for yourself on this cd.
I sincerely hope you like this music and look forward to your feedback."

thanks,
Larry
