This revision of the Study Guide has been shaped by many years of teaching and writing experience. In preparing it, I have tried to objectively examine my own classroom involvement, evaluate student input about the ways they learn, draw on my discussions with colleagues about the dynamics of teaching and learning, and pay close attention to the comments of the users and reviewers of my previous edition. The result is a resource that I hope, when used in conjunction with FUNDAMENTALS OF ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY, by Frederic Martini, will not only excite students about this course but also provide valuable reinforcement of difficult concepts. The sequence of topics within the Study Guide parallels that of the text and also incorporates the Three-Level Learning System that students encounter in the texts end-of-chapter material. This system will be familiar to those of you conversant with Blooms Taxonomy. It provides a means for students to accurately gauge their level of comprehension of topics. The Level 1 questions are keyed directly to chapter objectives and offer a review of facts and terms. The Level 2 exercises encourage students to synthesize concepts, and Level 3 questions promote critical thinking. Each level contains appropriate question types including matching, multiple choice, completion, essay, labeling and concept mapping. Significant changes have been made in many exercises as a result of reviewer feedback. I would like to acknowledge the students and colleagues who have had an impact on this work through their careful and thoughtful reviews. I am also grateful for the support provided by my editors.
